The Allopathic Model
The fundamental philosophy of physical therapy concepts is rooted in the allopathic model. This is the same model that lends to classic, or traditional western medicine. This is important to know because other forms of care that form alternative medicine, have different philosophies that vary widely, and have limited scientific backing. This puts the science of physical therapy on the same footing as traditional medicine, but the same cannot be said for alternative medicine.
If any of this was in doubt, you can see how physical therapy has a presence in hospitals, whereas chiropractors are not allowed, nor are some alternative medicine providers e.g. acupuncture, craniosacral, Reiki, etc. all of whom have to operate out of niche studios and clinics.
Practicing the science of physical therapy therefore requires a strong basis in fundamental sciences of allopathic medicine, namely, anatomy, physiology, & pathology.
